When I started my small business I realized that unless I could get people excited about my courses. No one would attend them.

It was hard work getting people to come into the store and look around- but it was nothing in comparison to trying to get college students interested in a class they didn’t even have yet.

After all, if the audience doesn’t feel engaged then they’re not going to stay interested long enough to learn anything. Believe me, getting my first 100 student attendees to show up for a free course was no easy task.

It was even more difficult to convince their parents that they needed to come in and see the course for themselves. From their personal perspectives, their child won’t be attentive. One of my students always complains about being bored in class.

Luckily one of my assistants names Jafor managed to successfully engage her audience through social media.

So how did Jafor get his first 100 student attendees to show up? He used engagement methods that were specific to their audience: personal prospectives.

In other words, he tailored his message and delivery so that it would appeal specifically to the parents of potential students. This allowed him to bypass some of the initial resistance and convince them that they needed to attend even if their child wasn’t already signed up for the course.

How I Have Implemented These Ideas During An Event

For my upcoming workshop on Parental Engagement, I decided to use visuals, sound effects, and touch in order to engage my audience.
